Response to Jay Dolan’s Post
I tried my ass off to leave a comment on this post by Jay Dolan, but I guess they moderate their comments and don’t want to hear from someone who fights snark with reason.
Prematurely predicting the death of foursquare, hating on the checkins, expressing disgust for the Facebook, all you need is a jab at Julia Allison and you’re totally ganking Loren Feldman’s vibe.
Foursquare isn’t going anywhere and you can rest assured that they understand the kinds of things that resonate with the audience dealwise. As for “struggling” to work with big brands, the only struggle they have had so far is finding time to work with everyone that wants to work with them. They are a 35 person company with 4 business development guys, brilliant leadership and a whole lot of patience.Their user aquisition rate is ridiculous and they have some things in the pipeline that Facebook is not even thinking about yet because they are spending their time catching up to Foursquare. In other words, Foursquare will get here first (if Whrrl doesn’t), not Facebook. (Social Loyalty : http://bit.ly/hbrloyalty)
The Facebook deals launch was one of the wonkiest experiences I’ve seen. They are supposed to be this social media giant with their act together, but it doesn’t show. They rarely test their software, their mobile experience is mediocre and their communication with their audience is pretty poor. In fact the deals launch reminded me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJDztqCG91g&feature=youtu.be
Facebook has a long way to go before they - or anyone else - nukes the Foursquare, but it’s fun to provoke people to get hits and to get them to enagage, isn’t it?
